Nonwoven Textiles in Automobiles

The interest is growing in nonwoven fabrics due to their high speed production, low cost, easy to mold properties and ability to make composite materials.

Loom woven fabrics and knits dominate the fabric used in automobiles; however, nonwovens are starting to attract attention in new designs because of their low weight and low cost.

There are about 40 applications for nonwovens inside cars, with new uses for the exterior, such as undersheilds and outer wheel arch liners.

The recyclability of nonwoven materials is another key that will further advance the acceptance of nonwoven textiles in car design.

Nonwoven, needlepunch fabrics are used for sound dampening, anti squeak and rattle, undercarpet, hood liners, compartment lining, thermal insulation and bulkhead padding.
